The Big Bike Revival Grants programme

Grants of up to £3,500 are available to a range of not-for-profit and charitably inclined organisations in England for projects that support people returning to cycling, starting as complete beginners, and people who do not cycle regularly.

Who can apply: voluntary groups, social enterprises, Community Interest Companies (CICs) and other not-for-profit organisations in England, including local authorities, bike recycling centres and independent bike shops that can demonstrate a community interest, groups affiliated to Cycling UK, and training agencies.

The Big Bike Revival Grants programme, which reopened to applications on Monday 4th March 2024 for a Summer 2024 grants round, is funded by the Department for Transport and administered by Cycling UK. The grant scheme seeks to support people returning to cycling, starting as complete beginners, and other people who do not cycle regularly. This includes reaching new people, including groups who are underrepresented in cycling or face challenges and perceived barriers to cycling, such as:

  • Armed Forces veterans.
  • People not meeting physical activity guidelines.
  • People on low incomes.
  • People who identify as belonging to an ethnic minority group.
  • People with perceived barriers to cycling.
  • Refugees and Asylum Seekers, and
  • Women.
