WILD Young Parents RANT Club: Social media toolkit for sharing
Written and performed by young parents, this production is a response to the judgement and loss of identity felt by parents who have children under the age of 23. The song and video are the result of ‘Rant Club’ a project which provided support to young parents who were struggling with their mental health following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rant Club provided a safe space for young parents to talk about their experiences and what life is like as a young parent.
WILD worked with Trifle Gathering Productions, a theatre company that delivers community-based therapeutic work, to develop and deliver the innovative project across Cornwall. Rant Club sessions gave young parents a voice and empowered them to speak up and be heard so that strong feelings were not left unresolved.
The experiences captured in Rant Club were transformed into lyrics which were co-written by young parents and added to music composed by Dom Coyote. Young parents went on to create a music video, produced by Trifle and Brett Harvey of O-Region.
The video concept celebrates the brilliance of young parents whilst also addressing the loss of identity felt by young parents and silencing the shame and judgement felt by young parents.
80% of Rant Club parents reported improved mental health and greater confidence in their ability to deal with stress since participating in Rant Club. Reasons cited included the opportunity to talk about their feelings, learning to express strong emotions healthily and increased self-belief from contributing to the song.
