Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fairness Commission

Hours: n/a
Salary: n/a
Location: Cornwall

The new Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fairness Commission is searching for its first set of Commissioners, otherwise known as Representatives.

Launched by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Leadership Board and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Executive Group, the Fairness Commission will work to make Cornwall fairer and more inclusive.

Like Fairness Commissions across the UK, it will bring together people and organisations from the public, private and community sectors to help drive new thinking and catalyse change.

The CIOS Fairness Commission aims to define what “fairness” means in the context of the region, exploring linked factors such as health, poverty, and access to opportunity.

The new body will listen to local people, gather evidence, analyse it, and make recommendations to the local authority and other bodies.

Following the appointment of Tanuvi Ethunandan as its first Chair, the search is now on to find 10-15 Commissioners (Representatives) to staff the Commission and to share their experiences. Applications can be made via Cornwall Council’s LinkedIn page, with a deadline of December 8.

Councillor Carol Mould, portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council and a member of the Fairness Commission Development Group, said: “It is more important than ever for Cornwall to become fairer and more inclusive, and we know there is work to be done in this space.

“Joining the Fairness Commission provides a superb opportunity to roll your sleeves up and get involved in providing equal access to opportunities for the residents of our wonderful county.

“I encourage anyone who is interested to apply to become a Commissioner. No experience in this kind of role is needed, just a sincere desire to improve equity and inclusion across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”
