Artsplan is delivering a one day course on Evaluating Youth Arts Projects on Monday 18 October at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

This one-day training course explores the benefits of meaningful evaluation of youth arts projects. Beginning by addressing preconceptions around evaluation (constructive exercise or chore?) the course will progress to examine methodologies, structured approaches and case studies using a series of collaborative exercises and tutor led presentations.

Rachel Preston, Artsplan Development Manager, said: “Well planned, structured and meaningful evaluations are essential skills needed to effectively project manage. This course will provide you with creative examples and useful case studies in order to prepare you for thorough and inclusive evaluations”.

All participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course and a wealth of practical resources. Prices for each course, which include lunch and refreshments, range from £110 to £150, with limited bursaries available.

Artsplan is the training and publications department of Artswork and is the largest provider of specialist youth arts training courses and publications in the UK.

For more information on these courses or to book a place, please contact the Artsplan Team via artsplan@artswork.org.uk or call 02380 682 535. To download the NEW exciting 2010-2011 Artsplan Programme and please visit:

Devon & Cornwall Police Authority has a number of exciting roles for volunteers, both hands-on and strategic. These FREE training sessions run by Take Part Cornwall in Bodmin (Tue 7 Sep) and Penzance (Wed 8 Sep) are an introduction to two of them.

Independent Custody Visitors work on the front line of law and order, making visits to busy working police stations. They check and report on the welfare of people in custody, and make sure they know their rights.

Independent Members of the Police Authority work more strategically. They are local people selected from an open recruitment process, who set targets for policing across Devon and Cornwall, and listen to local people to find out what they want from their police force.

An introduction to both roles will be given in both the Penzance and Bodmin training sessions, so come along if either role sounds interesting to you. Though the Devon & Cornwall Police Authority will be replaced in 2012, it is still going ahead with this autumn’s recruitment of new Independent Members to serve until then. Responsiblity for Independent Custody Visitors is anticipated to transfer to the successor policing body.

12pm to 4pm, Tuesday 7 September, Shire House, Mount Folly Square, Bodmin and 12.30pm to 4.30pm, Wednesday 8 September, St John’s Hall, Alverton Street, Penzance.

Book a place by contacting Cornwall VSF on 01872 241584 or email Kath Maguire at kath.maguire@cornwallvsf.org giving your name, contact details and which of the two sessions you would prefer to attend.

A highly-specialised event takes place in Birmingham on Monday 20 September aimed at charities and social enterprises looking to generate income through work with offenders, ex-offenders or people at risk of offending.

With the Coalition Government looking to make public sector cuts, and involve voluntary sector organisations more in delivering public services, the event is particularly well-timed.

According to the organisers, CLINKS and the Development Trusts Association (DTA), it should be of interest to: -

Representatives of organisations who want to generate income but don’t know where to start.

Organisations hoping to mitigate the impact of spending cuts by diversifying their income streams.

Organisations trying to reinvigorate and expand fundraising activities.

The training will include presentations from guest speakers, step-by-step practical information and real life case study successes.

The event at Birmingham’s BCVS costs £50 including lunch per person, but there are limited number of bursaries available covering travel and fees or just fees. It is scheduled to start at 10.30am. Click here to download the booking form.

Devon & Cornwall Police Authority has a number of exciting roles for volunteers, both hands-on and strategic. Run by Take Part Cornwall, these FREE training sessions in Bodmin and Penzance are an introduction to two of them.

12pm to 4pm, Tuesday September 7, Shire House, Mount Folly Square, Bodmin and 12.30pm to 4.30pm, Wednesday September 8, St John’s Hall, Alverton Street, Penzance. Contact Cornwall VSF on 01872 241584 to book a place.

Take Part Cornwall is led by Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum. It forms part of the Take Part Pathfinder programme, which is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government and managed by the Community Development Foundation.
