This one-day training course explores the benefits of meaningful evaluation of youth arts projects. Beginning by addressing preconceptions around evaluation (constructive exercise or chore?) the course will progress to examine methodologies, structured approaches and case studies using a series of collaborative exercises and tutor led presentations.

New website

Inter-Link Cornwall has also launched its new website at www.cornwallinterlink.org.uk. The website features information about Inter-Link’s events and services, and gives your organisation the chance to register or update its information on the database.

Independent Custody Visitors work on the front line of law and order, making visits to busy working police stations. They check and report on the welfare of people in custody, and make sure they know their rights.

Independent Members of the Police Authority work more strategically. They are local people selected from an open recruitment process, who set targets for policing across Devon and Cornwall, and listen to local people to find out what they want from their police force.

An introduction to both roles will be given in both the Penzance and Bodmin training sessions, so come along if either role sounds interesting to you. Though the Devon & Cornwall Police Authority will be replaced in 2012, it is still going ahead with this autumn’s recruitment of new Independent Members to serve until then. Responsiblity for Independent Custody Visitors is anticipated to transfer to the successor policing body.

The event is an opportunity for community activists and representatives of VCS organisations to give their feedback on the Government’s Big Society plans. There will be a particular focus on Community Activists, who the Government wants to train to co-ordinate Big Society work in local communities.

Southwest Foundation is not funded by GOSW to provide this seminar, but felt that this is an important topic and the Foundation  would like to make the consultation as accessible as possible to enable people in Cornwall to take part. The consultation materials are provided by GOSW and the views from the seminar will be fed into the Government’s consultation process via GOSW.

With the Coalition Government looking to make public sector cuts, and involve voluntary sector organisations more in delivering public services, the event is particularly well-timed.

According to the organisers, CLINKS and the Development Trusts Association (DTA), it should be of interest to: -

• Organisations hoping to mitigate the impact of spending cuts by diversifying their income streams. 
• Organisations trying to reinvigorate and expand fundraising activities.

The training will include presentations from guest speakers, step-by-step practical information and real life case study successes.
