Devon & Cornwall Police Authority has a number of exciting roles for volunteers, both hands-on and strategic. These FREE training sessions run by Take Part Cornwall in Bodmin (Tue 7 Sep) and Penzance (Wed 8 Sep) are an introduction to two of them.
Independent Custody Visitors work on the front line of law and order, making visits to busy working police stations. They check and report on the welfare of people in custody, and make sure they know their rights.
Independent Members of the Police Authority work more strategically. They are local people selected from an open recruitment process, who set targets for policing across Devon and Cornwall, and listen to local people to find out what they want from their police force.
An introduction to both roles will be given in both the Penzance and Bodmin training sessions, so come along if either role sounds interesting to you. Though the Devon & Cornwall Police Authority will be replaced in 2012, it is still going ahead with this autumn’s recruitment of new Independent Members to serve until then. Responsiblity for Independent Custody Visitors is anticipated to transfer to the successor policing body.
12pm to 4pm, Tuesday 7 September, Shire House, Mount Folly Square, Bodmin and 12.30pm to 4.30pm, Wednesday 8 September, St John’s Hall, Alverton Street, Penzance.
Book a place by contacting Cornwall VSF on 01872 241584 or email Kath Maguire at kath.maguire@cornwallvsf.org giving your name, contact details and which of the two sessions you would prefer to attend.
To whet your appetitie for the training, Our How To guides give a more detailed introduction to each role. Click on the images below to download full pdf versions.
East Cornwall CVS is hosting a Funding Fair at Wadebridge Town Hall on Tuesday 7 September from 9.30am to 5pm.
If you are an organisation in need of funding, this is a great opportunity to talk directly to the organisations holding the purse strings, and find out how they can help.
Southwest Foundation and Disability Cornwall have joined forces to hold an extra consultation event on the Big Society in Hayle on Thursday 30 September, in addition to those hosted by GOSW in Bristol and Plymouth.
A highly-specialised event takes place in Birmingham on Monday 20 September aimed at charities and social enterprises looking to generate income through work with offenders, ex-offenders or people at risk of offending.
With the Coalition Government looking to make public sector cuts, and involve voluntary sector organisations more in delivering public services, the event is particularly well-timed.
