A new free service for Community Groups

The Rural Services Network would like to make our community members aware of a free service offered by the ATU to any community or voluntary organisation involved, interested in or considering taking on responsibility for a transferred asset.

The Asset Transfer Unit (ATU) helps to empower local people and organisations to transform land and buildings into vibrant community spaces whilst supporting the development of a thriving third sector. They claim to be the leading provider of expert advice, guidance and support concerning the transfer of under-used land and buildings from the public sector to community ownership and management – helping organisations to develop those assets and deliver long-term social, economic and environmental benefits.

The Unit is led and managed by the Development Trusts Association – the UK’s leading network of community enterprise practitioners – in association with Community Matters and the Local Government Association. It is funded by Communities and Local Government.

Details of the ATU’s free service to Community members can be seen by clicking here.

We hope this may be of interest to some of you,

Our new look

We have changed the theme for our website and added some new pages.  The idea is to make things a little easier to find and a little less cluttered.  Everything is still here, just presented slightly differently.  One of the things we have added is a page giving information on our current projects, so be sure to check it out.

Community empowerment gone mad?

Ann Hartley, Deputy Leader of Shropshire County Council, believes that by giving the community more power it makes it more difficult to deliver radical policies and gives too much influence to the ‘vociferous minority’. Do you agree? Post your comments and join the debate.

We have moved (again)!

Just a note to say that Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum are now set up in our new office in Old Bridge Street, Truro.

Our new Admin Assistant Chris Augarde has also now started with us, so generally you should start finding it easier to track us down using the new office telephone. The details are below. Please note that we are not taking visitors just yet, as we are still unpacking / sorting out our furniture etc. but we hope to be fully operational by next week. We promise to try to stay put for a bit now!

‘Civic Pioneers’ case study review

Communities and Local Government Report

In the spring of 2007, funding was made available through the Community Empowerment Division to Civic Pioneer local authority areas to carry out projects focusing on community empowerment. This review presents case studies of each of the twelve funded projects together with a simple analysis of the lessons learned from these experiences. The report aims to facilitate valuable learning for practitioners and policy-makers, highlighting the wide variety of outcomes achieved and drawing out the common success factors.

Help us design our new look

Cornwall VSF is this week asking colleagues to quote for work to give us a new corporate image.  We are interested in quotes to design a new logo, a display stand and a banner graphic for this website.  We are also looking for someone to design our annual review.  If you are interested in tendering, please complete and return this MS Excel form: vsf-marketing-tender.  The deadline is very short – we want quotes back by this Friday 28th November.
