Government Guidance For Consulting With The Third Sector

The Office of the Third Sector has published the handbook that illustrates how third sector organisations can influence the debate about local needs and can provide unique perspectives and insights as to how those needs are addressed. It also encourages an environment in which the third sector can work in partnership with government, and can campaign for change, whilst retaining its independent voice.

Help shape government policy on social exclusion

The minister for social exclusion, Kevin Brennan has launched the Socially Excluded Adults Public Service Agreement Community of Practice. This is an innovative and interactive web forum to help deliver the government’s commitment to radically improve the life chances of vulnerable adults by helping them get back on track to a more successful life. The community is open to anyone involved or interested in helping to improve services for vulnerable groups, whether you work in local or central government, for a service provider, or in the third sector.

This community is for people involved in working with the four PSA 16 client groups – care leavers, offenders under probation supervision, those with moderate to severe learning disabilities, and adults receiving secondary mental health services, and on the Care Programme Approach (CPA). It is an online space to share ideas, information, and help shape policy.

Plus, St Merryn won their vote and the parish will now have a wonderful community garden!

Yes, it’s true. The first funding bid of the Climate Friendly Parish was successful! They have been allocated almost £50,000 to fund their community garden project.

As well as providing St Merryn with much-needed allotment space, the project aims to provide community composting, community gardening and a toddlers’ play area. They hope to really involve lots of villagers – single people, groups, families, the young and the not-so-young. They also plan on running lots of workshops and encouraging everyone to take part.  For information or images about the St Merryn project, contact Ceri on 01841 521586.

Help us design our new look

Cornwall VSF is this week asking colleagues to quote for work to give us a new corporate image.  We are interested in quotes to design a new logo, a display stand and a banner graphic for this website.  We are also looking for someone to design our annual review.  If you are interested in tendering, please complete and return this MS Excel form: vsf-marketing-tender.  The deadline is very short – we want quotes back by this Friday 28th November.

Putting Older People First – A regional housing market assessment

The South West Housing LIN (Learning and Improvement Network) has led a comprehensive analysis of the issues that will shape housing with support in the region over the coming decades.

Working with the Housing Corporation, the LIN has produced a pack bringing together data on population trends and the availability of different housing types in an area facing significant special challenges.

It concludes that housing and support options for older people will have to be transformed over the coming decade as the population ages. The pack includes ten case studies of innovative housing with support schemes.

On behalf of Older People in Cornwall and the VSF, Age Concern Cornwall will be attending a series of regional and local actions to help make the connections between housing, health and well-being for older people.
